Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.
From Joshua Gaylord’s Hummingbirds:
“During the winter, the courtyard of Carmine-Casey is barren and miserable and inspires thoughts of death in the minds of the students who sit staring out the windows, deaf to their history lectures and their French recitations. Gazing at the leafless branches of the sugar maple (they look like the pictures of the frozen ganglia in their biology textbooks–exactly like frozen ganglia) and the rutted, hardened mud, each girl imagines that she knows the best way to die–the most dramatic, the most meaningful.”
I received an advanced copy of this from HarperCollins (in the interest of full disclosure), and I must admit I am enjoying it a great deal. Hummingbirds tells the story of a cast of characters–students and teachers–at an all-girls school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan…but that’s all I’ll say until I’ve finished the book!
I snagged an ARC of this one as well and am really looking forward to it! Glad to hear you’re enjoying it!
This sounds really interesting. I’ll have to keep an eye out for your review. Here’s my link: http://thecrowdedleaf.wordpress.com/2009/11/17/teaser-tuesday-double-or-nothin/
I wondered about this book. The sentences in your teaser are wonderful and have completely piqued my interest in the rest of the story. This sounds like a story worth reading!
Thank you for such an interesting teaser =o)
Steph, I found it pretty entertaining. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it.
Alayne, I enjoyed it. It had some rough spots, but overall…well, I’ll review it soon!
Amy, I think it will be worth reading…more to follow!
