Taking a cue from Fobbit author David Abrams over at this blog The Quivering Pen (he took his cue from You Are One of Them author Erin Holt), I thought I’d list my favorite reads of 2013 so far. Although I’ve only listed eight books, they all knocked it out of the park, and I don’t expect that any of them will drop off the list at the end of the year.
I could not get through A Fine Balance. I’m stuck somewhere in the middle and choose to ignore it. Still in the drawer though. Maybe one day I’ll pick it back up. I haven’t read the others, though. I’ll put them on my list. Thanks!
I’ve just finished Life After Life. It’s really cemented my love for Kate Atkinson. What a wonderful and brilliant writer.
Some excellent choices in there. Thank you for the recommendations. Top of my list this year so far would be Back From The Abyss (The Autobiography Of A Low-Bottom Alky) by Kieran Doherty. http://capandbellspress.com/2013/05/back-from-the-abyss/.
I’m not usually a big fan of autobiographies but this book was recommended to me by a good friend and it turned out one of the best books I’ve read in many years. The author is sadly now deceased and this book takes you through his wild and emotional life story with wonderful charm and charisma. I took a lot away from this book and its played on my mind for the last few weeks. Always a sign of a great book for me.
Thanks for this recommendation Robert! We’re thrilled you enjoyed the book. Priscilla, if at any point you’d like to receive a copy for review we’ll gladly send you one, just email me (Jess Kurrle) at info [at] capandbellspress [dot] com.
