When I first started putting together this list of the books I missed in 2015, I thought I’d find it difficult to list ten. To my surprise, my list goes into the teens, especially if I include non-fiction (such as Ta-nehisi Coates’s Between the World and Me) and books that are part of series but too far down the line for me (like Robert Galbraith’s Career of Evil, which I can’t—or won’t—pick up until I’ve read The Silkworm). Looks like I have some catching up to do…someday. Following are my top ten unread works of fiction released in 2015 (clicking the book cover image will take you to the Goodreads page for that book). I own the first two, and the third is on hold at the library, so with any luck, I’ll get to them this year. For the remaining seven books, it’s all the luck of the draw. What books did you miss in 2015? Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.
If you want to read a book about Beryl West, I will send you her autobiography. Much better book, and I have read them both. Save your money on that one… it’s not Circling the Sun, it’s Circling the Drain.
Pat
I actually got a copy of A Little Life, but I still have to read it… I have heard great things about it though.
I just today put A Little Life on my Goodreads to-read list. For months now, despite the near unanimous praise, I thought I couldn’t/shouldn’t read it because it would be too sad. But I keep hearing from many sources how great it is, so I thought, well… okay, I’ll try it. We’ll see how far I get, when I get it (waiting list at library.)
I also want to read Cleaning Women, though I didn’t think to put it on my list! Undermajordomo Minor is a strange book, but I really enjoyed it.
Like — you’re probably fine without A Little Life. It’s sooooooo looooooooong. And I am in a minority in that I thought it was fatally, fatally flawed, to the point that it really marred my enjoyment of the book and made me frustrated with the author and her editor for letting her be so self-indulgent. (Alas!)
Mom, I really enjoyed McClain’s The Paris Wife, so I still want to read Circling the Sun.
Yvo, I’ve gone back and forth on A Little Life, but I’ve read enough strong reviews that make me want to give it a chance.
Laila, I was number 27 when I put my name on the waiting list. I can imagine it’s going to be a while, because it’s a longer book so I’m sure people are keeping it checked out or not returning it until they are finished, even if it’s overdue. I can do sad…I just hope the writing is good.
Deb, I’m really intrigued by Cleaning Women. I’ll probably be reading Undermajordomo Minor soon, because I’d actually already started it when I got the library pickup notice for A Brief History of Seven Killings and switched over to that. I liked the opening pages.
Jenny, you know I trust you and Teresa! Still, I’ve decided I’m going to read it (but not buy it–I’ve put it n hold at the library). I’m just too curious to say no!
I haven’t been completely sure whether to read it or not either, but I’m sure I will at some point this year.
I already own Our Endless Numbered Days and Fates and Furies and I STILL haven’t read them! Gah.
Andi, you’ve had quite the year dealing with other stuff, so I don’t think anyone will judge you for not getting to those!
